The society Sirmiones-skeppslag received the snipa-boat as a gift in 2005.
The order for the snipa-boat was placed in 1964 with Harry Henriksson’s boat yard in Kivik by the fisherman Hans Johan Södergren from Abbekås.
The snipa-boat has been used as a ‘net emptying snipa-boat’, that is to say, for emptying the eel gill nets in the eel fishing ground off Abbekås.
The design of the snipa-boat reflects the different character of the marine environment along the coast of Skåne. Fishing boats built for the Österlen coast are significantly heavier and more powerful than those built for the south coast.
